DUBRAVKA ZRNČIĆ-KULENOVIĆ

Dubravka Zrnčić-Kulenović (Karlovac, 1954), theatrologist, dramaturge and director, has been working professionally at theaters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia for forty-six years. From 1976 to 1992 she was a dramaturge at the Puppet Theater in Sarajevo, and then at the Youth Theater in Sarajevo. Starting in 1992 she worked as an independent artist in Croatia and founded the independent puppet theater for children and youths. She returned to Sarajevo in 1996 and started collaborating with the Sarajevo War Theater SARTR, where she was art director and later dramaturge. Together with a group of artists she founded the Puppetry Studio Sarajevo in 1997, as the first independent and informal school in Bosnia and Herzegovina intended for young artists – a specialist education program in theatric arts (puppet animation, scenography, visual design and production of puppets), where she also taught. In 2005 she became an art associate at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek (Puppetry Esthetics and Dramaturgy), and in 2011 she was promoted to docent and started teaching at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, at the departments of dramaturgy and acting (Puppetry and Puppetry Dramaturgy). She adapted and directed more than 500 stories in the form of short radio plays for children (1993–2004) for Croatian Radio, and she occasionally collaborates with the Drama and Documentary Program Department of Radio‑Television of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Drama Program of BH Radio 1.

For the past three years she has been focusing on theatrology work, writing monographs for the jubilee of the BH theater.

In addition to working at her parent theaters, she has worked as a dramaturge and director at theater in Slovenia (Jože Pengo Puppet Theater Ljubljana) and Croatia (Istrian National Theater Pula, Ivan Brlić-Mažuranić Theater Slavonski Brod, Žar Ptica City Theater Zagreb, Theater &TD Zagreb), as well as in Bosnia and Herzegovina (The Mostar Summer event), and the Children’s Stage of the Bosnian National Theater Zenica.

She has received a number of awards for her artistic work.
