SCEN Centre for Scene Design, Architecture and Technology and the Biennale of Scene Design are announcing

REGIONAL PUBLIC OPEN CALL for participation for the Student Biennale

Important dates

Application opening: March 21st, 2022

Closing of the application: May 15th, 2022

One of the main goals of the Biennale of Scene Design is creating a space for artistic work of
students and young professionals. The Biennale is a platform that will enable meetings,
exchanges, and cooperation of artists of different generations and professional or cultural and social backgrounds. A regional open call is being announced for the student exhibition.
In accordance with the theme of the Biennale, the open call invites students or student groups
from Serbia and the region to apply with projects created in the period 2018-2022, within or
outside their studies. The works should review the topic of fluidity and correspond, or be
analogues, to the categories of the Biennale.
The purpose of the competition is the selection and presentation of works of art that reflect on the theme of fluidity, search for authentic experiences, for presence in the real world and
connection with it. The search can be through a topic and/or through a medium, and the
backbone consists of creative thinking, application, and development of craftsmanship in
contemporary artistic expression.
During the selection process, special attention will be paid to the proposed formats of
presenting artworks in an exhibition space. Having in mind that the Foundation Novi Sad –
European Capital of Culture has included the Biennale of Scene Design as one of the main
projects of its program, the Biennale will largely be dedicated to researching, discovering,
conquering, and reviving old, abandoned, and underused spaces in Novi Sad.
The deadline for applying to the open call is May 15 th , 2022.
The application implies sending a completed form, after which the candidates will receive an
email response containing all the necessary information about uploading visual materials of their works. The project should be presented in any format by the choice of the author (pdf
presentation, website, or video), and it should contain photographs, drawings, collage, 3D
models, video material, sound etc.
An international jury will be conducting the first selection of works that will be presented in the catalogue. The curatorial team of the exhibition will then select the projects that will be presented at the exhibition. For this purpose, online work formats will be organised in order to adapt and prepare the works for the exhibition.
The selected students will be provided with transportation and accommodation for their trip to the Biennale in Novi Sad. During the exhibition, the team of the Student Biennale will organise a series of side programs, such as interviews with student-authors and curatorial and artistic tours through the exhibition.
